World Press Photo 2012 for Poles
Tomasz Lazar "Arrest of protesters in Harlem, New York, during a demonstration against police tactics and income inequality" (source: WPP2012)
Polish photographer Tomasz Lazar was awarded second place in the most prestigious photography competition World Press Photo 2012! Lazar sent his photo on WPP for the first time and it already appeared victorious which therefore was more pleasant surprise for him. Photographer is awarded in the category "People in the News" (a single picture). His photo shows a girl protesting while arrest in Harlem, New York. The picture is full of character and in a very expressive way represents woman's emotions.
Among this year's winners another Pole - Tomasz Gudzowany was awarded. He was already awarded in the World Press Photo competition. This year Gudzowaty received third prize in the category "Sports" for "Lucha Libre at La Loba" photo story showing Mexican wrestlers.
Other Polish winner of World Press Photo 1987 in news photography category for pictures from Afghanistan was the Minister of Foreign Affairs Radoslaw Sikorski.
