15-year-old Polish photographer Mateusz Piesiak from Wroclaw, took the title of Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2011!
His winning photo was taken on holiday, on New York beach where he caught two brown oystercatchers with their beaks entwined. Competition for the image of nature was organized by the BBC Wlidlife Magazine and the Natural History Museum in London. For prestigious winner title 41 thousands photos from around the world have fought.
The victory was a huge surprise not only to Mateusz, but also to his parents who did not know that their son had applied to a competition. After the announcement of results, Mateusz was asked to give a speech at the Royal Geographic Society where he was lecturing to experienced nature photographers. At the end of the meeting Mateusz has gathered an impressive ovation.
The most important for Mateusz, however, is the prize – a week training with nature photographer of his choice. Probably in the spring Mateusz will go to Finland where he will be train photography under the guidance of the eminent owls photographer - Järi Peltomäki.
The winning photo of Matthew Piesiak can be seen at London's Natural History Museum and on the Museum’s website.
