In the 1930s, a 2700-year-old wooden village of the Lusatian culture was discovered on a peninsula of the Biskupin Lake (Jezioro Biskupińskie). The historical mysteries of the village were explored one by one by archaeologists, who concluded that it had consisted of 11 streets and 100 long houses with a population of 1200. Nowadays, Biskupin is opened for tourists all year long; the museum consist of an open-air section with a reconstructed fragment of the settlement with a characteristic gate and 13 cabins, and a large indoor section with a number of exhibitions. In this Central Europe’s largest open-air archaeological museum, the visitors may experience with their own eyes our ancestors’ way of life of centuries ago.
