The Maria Skłodowska-Curie Museum

The museum of a great Polish scientist, the winner of two Nobel Prizes in Chemistry and Physics – Maria Skłodowska-Curie, is situated in a historic tenement in Nowe Miasto District in Warsaw, where she was born.

Considered to be the greatest scientist of all times, Maria Skłodowska-Curie (1867–1934) is still the only woman who won the Nobel Prize twice (in 1903 and in 1911) and the only scientist honoured in two different fields of natural sciences.

The Pole created the foundations for development of contemporary physics and chemistry. Her achievements include among others development of the theory of radioactivity and discovery of two new elements – radium and polonium. The first studies on radioactive treatment of cancer were carried out under her supervision.

She spent most of her life in France, where she developed her scientific career. In four rooms of the museum, you will learn about achievements of this outstanding scientist and feel the atmosphere of the age she lived in. You will be impressed by some authentic objects: family furniture and souvenirs, awards, collection of medals, photographs, documents and even a coat, an inkwell and a leather purse. The original laboratory equipment with which she made her discoveries together with her husband Peter Curie helps to appreciate the value of the scientific achievements of the scientist.

The Museum has an extensive teaching and educational offer for children and young people.
