The International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Festival held every five years in Poznań is the oldest violin competition in the world.
It was first organised in 1935 on the hundredth birthday anniversary of the violin virtuoso on the initiative of the artist’s nephew Adam Wieniawski. Today, the competition is organised by Henryk Wieniawski Musical Society established in 1960.
Violinists from all over the world who are aged up to 30 are eligible to enrol on the four-stage competition. During the final stage, the competitors are required to perform with the symphonic orchestra.
The next, 14th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition will take place in 2011.
