September, Biskupin

Every year at the end of September the ancient settlement of Biskupin hosts the Archaeological Festival. Visitors to this early wooden fort of the Lusatian culture dating back the 8th century B.C. set out on amazing journey back in time. They watch fascinating demonstrations of ancient trades and crafts, as well as mediaeval fashion shows. Artisans who present their skills include potters, glassblowers, woodcarvers, stone masons, purse makers and many others. Participants can practice bow and crossbow shooting, learn to mint coins, or taste flatbread based on a centuries’ old recipe. The first festivals focused on the everyday life of Slavonic tribes, while the more recent ones concentrated on popularising the cultures of the ancient Egyptians, Romans and Vikings.
