St. Valentine’s Day is best celebrated in Chełmno: it is here that the relics of Saint Valentine, the patron saint of lovers, have been preserved for several hundred years in the local parish church.
14 February in Chełmno is a day one of its kind. After a Holy Mass which is offered for the intention of those who love and their loved ones, many love and romance-themed events are organised throughout the city including rock concerts, brass band parades, competitions and a wide array of other performances.
Students and scouts make a huge heart of thousands burning lanterns in the market square. St. Valentine’s Day in Chełmno traditionally ends in a fireworks display.
