Prowincjonalia Festival is a film competition of the best Polish feature, television and documentary films concentrating on the rural and provincial issues. It involves original and artistic cinema, dominated by the world of simple, universal values, subtlety and aesthetics of narration. Prowincjonalia is often called a festival of peripheral or outsiders’ cinema.

The aim of the Festival is to popularize Polish film art as well as to emphasize the role of the film in the social life. What we particularly care about, is to single out the films that are of high artistic and humanistic value. We would also like the Festival to be an inspiration for the new interesting achievements, creating the atmosphere of openness and trust between people, without prejudices, stereotypes or xenophobia.

A spiritual patron of the Festival is "Jańcio Wodnik", philosopher and faith healer, appearing in one of Jan Jakub Kolski's films. This character became a prototype of a statuette, created by Stanisław Sztamblewski from Kraśnica, being an award for the creators of the Prowincjonalia Festival best films.

A remarkable feature of the Festival is its openness for low-budget cinema. It was in Września, where the festival journey of movies such as Artur Więcek's "Anioł w Krakowie", Andrzej Janikowski Baron and "Zmruż oczy" started.

A good Festival's tradition is to reward film makers for their entire contribution to a film industry with. So far, the following film makers were awarded:
