The New York Jewish Film Festival is one of the most prestigious Jewish film events in the United States. Each year the Festival is organized by the Jewish Museum and the Film Society of Lincoln Center.
This year program includes Polish films as well. “Daas” directed by Adrian Panek will have its premiere in the US. Then, “My Australia” by Ami (Tadeusz) Drozd and documentary film “The Moon is Jewish” directed by Michał Tkaczyk will be also screened.
"Daas" is the story of eighteenth-century mystic who creates the Jewish sect. Through his actions he won notoriety and influenced the consciousness of not only poor but also kings. "Daas" is the story of one man power, but also about sources of impending disaster.
"My Australia" is a Polish-Israeli story about two brothers growing up in postwar Poland. Yet, they are not aware of their own Jewish origin. After the events of March 1968 in Poland, the family has to leave Lodz (Łódź). Mother of boys said that they were going to Australia, because the younger of them, Tadeusz, has always dreamed to go there on a trip. In fact, the family moves to Israel, where the brothers will have to adapt to a completely new environment and unknown culture.
"The Moon is Jewish" is a document that tells the story of the Warsaw football fan hating "Jews, blacks, gypsies, even the homeless." His life changes, however, when it turns out that being abusive to Jews, he offense himself. "The Moon is Jewish" is a contemporary story about the choices and dilemmas, but also attempt to describe how old traditions exist in the modern world.
