On the rise: Polish science and technology parks

Thanks to lavish European Union funds, a number of science and technology parks have recently emerged in Poland. Such centers develop future solutions in innovation and technology.

The number of such investments is on the rise in Poland. In 2009 there were 47 science and technology parks, and since then, some 650 million PLN has been invested in the field. Most of the funding comes from the EU coffers according to the Business and Innovation Centers in Poland report published by the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development.
Experts claim that science and technology parks are planned to back up the establishment of new innovative technology firms and encourage the transfer of technological thought to small and medium-sized businesses. Such projects also attempt at bettering the use of EU funds and promote research undertakings via boosting relations between business and science.

The Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency has comprised a list of such parks on the territory of Poland, which includes, e.g. AURO Business Park in Gliwice, Science and Technology Park Poland-East in Suwałki, Bełchatów Kleszczów Industrial And Technological Park, Bielsko Aviation Technology Park, Boruta Zgierz Industrial Park, Bukowice Industrial Park, Bydgoszcz Industrial Park, Częstochowa Industrial Park, The Euro-Center Industrial Park, Euro-Center Science and Technology Park, Gdańsk Science and Technology Park, Goleniów Industrial Park, Industrial and Technological Park in Piekary Śląskie, Industrial Park "Stare Miasto-Park", Industrial Park in Solec Kujawski, Industrial Park in Stargard, Kalisz Technological Incubator, Karkonosze Economic Development Park, KGHM LETIA Legnica Technology Park S.A., Kielce Technology Park, Kraków Lifescience Park, Kraków Technology Park, Kutno Agro-Industrial Park, Lower Silesian Technology Park „T-Park”.

The list shows that science and technology parks are developing best in the regions of Silesia, Mazovia, Great Poland, and Small Poland. Most importantly, Polish science and technology parks can hope for more funds in the forthcoming years. The EU has put aside, under its Innovative Economy Operational Program, a sum of 150 million EUR for investments in this sector by 2013.
