Nominees for Polish Film Awards announced!

Polish Film Awards called "Orły" (in English "Eagles") are presented by the Polish Film Academy since 1999. This award is equivalent to the national film academies awards such as French César Awards, Czech Lions (Czech: Český lev), English BAFTAs, Spanish Goyas, and in Europe - European Film Awards. Additional award will be granted by the audience.

Yesterday, 7th February, the list of nominees was announced. Eagles will be given in 16 categories. The most frequent titles among the nominees are: “In darkness” by Agnieskza Holland – record 10 nominations, “Suicide room” by Jan Komasa – 8 nominations and “Rose” by Wojciech Smarzowski – 9 nominations. All these films are nominates in three the most important categories, namely: the best film, the best directing and the best screenplay.

Other nominated films are: “Wymyk” by Greg Zgliński (best scenario), “Młyn i krzyż” by Lech Majewski (best photos, best music and costumes). In actor related categories the most frequently given names are: Roma Gąsiorowska (actress leading role for the film “Ki” and actress in supporting role for “Suicide room”) and Jakub Gierszał (“Suicide room”), Marcin Dorociński (“Rose”), Robert Więckiewicz (“In darkness”) – all nominated to actor in a leading role category.

The award will be also given in the category discovery of the year in which the debutant directors are nominated: Jan Komasa (“Suicide room”), Adrian Panek (“Daas”) and Leszek Dawid (“Ki”).

February 29, the special Eagle for Life Achievements will be given. Other laureates will be awarded March 5, during official Eagles 2012 (Orły 2012) ceremony.
