Nativity Scenes (December)

First Thursday of December, Cracow

Nativity scenes – picturesque, colourful, joyful, inspired by legends and Cracow architecture. Since 1937, they have attracted to the Cracow Market Square near Adam Mickiewicz monument residents of the former Polish capital city and plenty of tourists. They admire wonderfully decorated nativity scenes, a product of human hands and imagination. The smallest ones have a couple of centimetres, and the biggest even several metres. At the sign of the bugler from St. Mary's Basilica the nativity scene procession goes towards Krzysztofory palace. There, the jury chooses the most beautiful work, and ceremonially opens the nativity scene exhibition.
