The International Mother Language Day, also known as the International Day of the Linguistic Heritage, is an annual holiday celebrated on 21st February. It was established by UNESCO in 1999 to highlight the richness of linguistic diversity of the world and to promote the multilingualism of the world.
In Poland, already yesterday February 20, the new socio-educational campaign connected to the celebration of International Mother Language Day was launched. National project called "Native language - Add to Favourites" aims at raising Poles’ language awareness and promotion of linguistic care about the correctness of the Polish language.
The campaign was initiated and organized by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, Polish Language Council and the National Cultural Centre. The event is held under the honorary patronage of the President of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski.
