Międzyrzecki Rejon Umocniony (Międzyrzecki Fortified Region) is a former German fortification consisting of a few dozen military buildings, 21 of which are connected by a common system of underground tunnels, over 30km long. The tourist base in Pniewo near Kaława, south of Międzyrzecze, in the Lubuskie Province, provides a good starting point for a visit to the fortifications, which can take anything from one to eight hours. Among some of the attractions available in the fortifications are the organised line slides, games and cross-country walks, cycling and motor rides. The Międzyrzecki Fortified Region is available via E-65 (S3) and A2, which is currently under construction. The nearest airport is in Babimost (approximately 40km) and the sports airfield in Przylepa, approximately 60 km. The nearest railway stations are located in Międzyrzecze and Świebodzin (13 km).
