“The New York Times” has published the list of places worth visiting in 2012. We are proud to announce that among these well-known locations our Polish city has also its position. Among Tokyo, London and Havana the Poland’s third-largest city and the movie-making headquarters of the country (with a film school that started the careers of Roman Polanski and Andrzej Wajda) was put in the ranking of 45 most interesting places.
Lodz (originally Łódź) is described as a city with the labyrinth of textile warehouses and industrial-era relicts repurposed for artistic and entrepreneurial ventures. As an example of new adaptation of old factories, David Lynch idea of establishing a film studio in a former 19th century power plant in the city can be given. The architect Frank Gehry is in talks to design a congress centre together with and an avant-garde, building-block shape. Moreover, worth highlighting are innovative solutions in “Manufaktura” – a retail and entertainment centre and “Ms2” – the Art Museum which is placed in a historical building of the 19th century mill.
Encouraging you to visit Lodz, let us conclude with the citation from “The New York Times” ranking: “The Hollywood of Poland reclaims its industrial past.”
