For dozens of years, in a picturesque, health resort in Kłodzko area, one of the oldest International Chess Festival in Europe has been held in the memory of Akiba Rubinstein (1882-1962) – the greatest Polish chess player.
Every year in August, Polanica Zdrój becomes the chess capital of Poland. The Royal Game spreads over the entire health resort. In the health resort park, hundreds of chess games are played, simultaneous games take place at night, fast chess competitions are organized in which amateurs can play with real masters. Polanica hosted many great players of five continents, including World Champion Anatoly Karpov.
