Every year in May the Palace of Culture and Science hosts the International Book Fair – the most important event of this type in Central and Eastern Europe, and one of the most important worldwide.
The Warsaw book fair is a meeting place for writers, publishers and readers as well as a presentation of new literary and publishing successes. During the Fair, there are many direct meetings of authors with their readers. Apart from that, awards in industry competitions are granted and the achievements of the guest of honour are presented. In 2004 the guest of honour was Russia, in 2005 Switzerland, in 2008 Israel.
