The latest film by Agnieszka Holland "In darkness" will appear in Polish cinemas January 5, 2012. The film is a Polish candidate for the Oscar in the category "Best Foreign Language Film."

"In darkness" is a Polish, German and Canadian co-production which presents the fate of the Pole, Leopold Socha (authentic character), the petty thief who during World War II becomes a hero. He decides to hide in the sewers a group of Jews from Lvov ghetto. Risking his life and his loved ones, Socha saves from destruction 21 people who spend in hiding under the ground almost 14 months.

The character Leopold Socha is played by Robert Więckiewicz. The author of photographs is Jolanta Dylewska. Screenplay by David F. Shamoona was based on the novel by Robert Marshall, "In The Sewers of Lvov" and memories of one of the survivors, Krystyna Chiger, described in the book "Girl in the green sweater."

"In darkness" was also awarded on the prestigious film festival Plus Camerimage 2011 as “Best Film”.
