Famous painter’s illustrations returned to Poland
The collection of 62 illustrations to the Psalms and Bible’s verses by Bencjon Rabinovich
December 4, 2012 the Minister of Foreign Affairs Radoslaw Sikorski officially handed over the collection of 62 illustrations to the Psalms and Bible’s verses by famous painter Bencjon Rabinovich to deputy Robert Tyszkiewicz. The collection, brought to the country by the Polish MFA Consular Department, was released in 1960 by French publishing house “Lefort.” The set is a gift to Śledzińscy Gallery in Białystok (the north-east of Poland) from artist's relative Mrs. Raoberta Marcus, who lives in Canada.
Undeniably illustrations will enrich the collection of the Gallery for a unique work of eminent artist of Jewish origin, born in Białystok, who spent most of his life in France. Acquisition of such works is difficult due to the tragic fate of their authors at the time of World War II. A series of illustrations to the Psalms and Bible’s verses, the life’s work of Bencjon Rabinovich, is an artistic tribute and commemoration of his loved ones, murdered by the Nazis during World War II.
