Eminent Poles under the auspices of UNESCO
Witold Lutosławski and Bolesław Prus
UNESCO patronage embraces historic events and unique personalities, whose achievements are related to the mission and leading idea of mentioned organisation, that is to the dialogue of cultures and international understanding.
At the prestigious list of anniversaries to be celebrated under the auspices of UNESCO between 2012-2013 two anniversaries proposed by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage are named, that is: the 100th anniversary of the death of Boleslaw Prus (celebrated in 2012) and the 100th anniversary of the birth of Witold Lutoslawski (year 2013). Honouring outstanding personalities of Polish culture through the patronage of UNESCO and thus giving the international nature of the ceremonies, makes Polish heritage more well-known not only in Poland but first and foremost abroad.
The UNESCO list includes 98 anniversaries to be celebrated around the world.
