Birdwatching

March/April: Poland – a paradise for birds and bird admirers

Poland is one of few countries in Europe with numerous natural bird habitats. Wonderful areas stretch out from Bieszczady, through Biebrza valley to Wolin Island, where you can observe and photograph our winged friends. Wildlife and thousands of rare bird species attract not only birdwatchers but also Sunday tourists who want to commune with nature and experience a fascinating bird adventure.

Bird watching develops most dynamically in the United States and Western Europe. The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds in the United Kingdom counts more than a million members. In Holland, more than two million people are fascinated by bird watching. In Poland, although the number of bird enthusiasts is still increasing, only 7-10 thousand people admit to be bird watchers.

But it is Poland, the real paradise for bird amateurs, because only in our country is there uncontaminated nature and rare bird species, elsewhere extinct.
Spring in Biebrza Valley, when thousands of birds arrive, is a special time. Everyone who will take part in bloodless hunting, equipped with binoculars and a telescope, for sure will not forget the bird spectacle in which one can hear cries of thousands of geese, clanging of cranes, gobble of black grouse, swoosh of flapping wings.
On the biggest marshy area in Europe, on wetlands stretching away to the horizon, on reed fields and in forests, there live more than 230 bird species. You can meet here true bird rarities, including birds very rarely met in the wild: white-tailed sea eagle, eagle owl, short-eared owl, corncrake, ruff. And also aquatic warbler, a small, yellow bird threatened with extinction, for which naturalists from the entire European Union come here.

Every season is good to observe and photograph birds, and many sites in Poland are really attractive. You can experience an equally interesting adventure in anutumn or winter at Hel, in Barycz Valley or in Bieszczady. Emotions of observing bird customs are so big that everyone who tries it once, without any doubt will come back to this form of active leisure.
