Aleksander Wolszczan (born 1946) - astronomer. Since 1982 he has worked in the USA. He is a professor at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and cooperates with Toruń University. In 1990 he was the first to prove the existence of another planetary system in the Universe apart from our own solar system. In 1997 he was granted the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
