27. Warsaw Film Festival
Where does the rustle of falling leaves mix with the rustle of film stock?
In Warsaw, of course! Two cinema theatres in the city centre, nine days, tens of movies – most of which are not to be found later – that is the Warsaw Film Festival!
It is a wonderful time for the movie geeks – morning coffee while waiting for a film screening in one of the many buzzing cafes, analyzing the festival programme, planning and selecting next films... you cannot hope to see all of them – and then escaping the everyday life and its hustle...
The Festival, at first intended as a small, though ambitious, student event, evolved till it reached its present status – in 2009 it has become one of fourteen events accredited by the International Federation of Associations of Film Producers as international film festivals. It is a prestigious group of events which includes renowned film festivals in Cannes, Berlin, San Sebastian, Karlove Vary and Venice.
Five competitions and five non competition sections with films from 59 countries of the world, including such exotic (not commonly associated with film) countries as Rwanda, Morocco, Iceland or Macedonia. This is what film festivals are all about - to show important phenomena happening in the world cinema, intimate stories taking place in a completely different reality but, as a matter of fact appealing to the same emotions in all of us.
Among Polish films we will see the sensational “Rose” by Wojciech Smarzowski.
Highly recommended!
