Bory Dolnośląskie in southwest Poland

Pokaż poland.gov.pl - turystyka na większej mapie

The Bory Dolnośląskie woodland region is now being brought to the fore as the European green lungs. Although the area in southwest Poland is only now being discovered, its strengths cannot be overestimated. It is growing a prestigious tourist destination due to its high sightseeing value, health region and general unique potential.

Bory Dolnośląskie, the biggest densely forested area in Europe, is located in the north-western part of Dolnośląskie Province in southwest Poland. The forests thrive lavishly on postglacial sands in the Nysa Łużycka, Bóbr and Kwisa catchment regions. Surprisingly, the area is still unexplored by tourists despite its numerous advantages like pure nature, reserves, organic farming, fine forests and lakes. There is even a treat for military memorabilia lovers as the village of Świętoszów used to be occupied by the Soviet army units and thus did not exist on the official maps then.

Those eager to learn something about Lower Silesia region (in Polish ”Dolny Śląsk”) will be satisfied by educational tracks set up by the local tourist authorities. The others willing to be on the move should try the scenic bike trails which are conspicuously marked. in addition, Przemków is a haven for birdwatchers and the castle in Kliczków will be appealing to those who enjoy manmade things. At the same time, the castle is one of the biggest residences in Lower Silesia and lends itself to spa and retreat seekers as well. What is more, the heritage park surrounding the castle was designed by Eduard Pezold in the 19th century and is now among 10 points on the “Heritage Parks and Gardens Route” in southwest Poland. At present, thanks to EU financial aid and the efforts of the Pro Culturae Bono Foundation the park is under renovation to re-gain its previous splendour. Fortunately, the unique 19th century architectural landscape has been unscathed.

Choosing Bory Dolnosląskie as a haliday destination is a definite success as the multitude of attractions on site is truly overwhelming. Among those above-mentioned, there are such interesting and unusual places like, for example, the Bory Dolnosląskie Ecomuseum of Brown Coal Mining in Mirostowice Dolne or the Museum of Allied POW Martyrdom in Żagań.
